Matt Paradis, Youth Pastor
Chilhowee Hills Baptist Church, Knoxville, TN
Matt Paradis and his wife Dana do a good job with small groups at their church Chilhowee Hills. Part of that stems from a monthly dinner at the pastor’s home that helps the students feel connected to the overall church.
Austin Peay BCM
The BCM is sponsoring Int’l Justice Missions “Stand For Freedom” Day from noon on Wednesday until noon on Thursday April 9-10 in the University Center Plaza. It’s a 24 hours of standing to go along with this year’s theme of “One Day for Their Everyday” in reference to the 27 million slaves around the world today. We are connecting with many organizations on campus to not only stand for portions or the full 24 hours raise money and awareness. Pray for:
– Good weather for those standing for hours at a time.
– For awareness to be raised about this issue and God’s love to be shown.
– For the BCM in connecting with other organizations and Fraternities and Sororities on campus that God would open doors to communicate the gospel and true freedom in Christ to students who do not know him
Spring Break Mission Trip to Chicago
We had the chance to work with a wide variety of ministries during our week in Chicago– here’s a summary from each of the places we went: Uptown Baptist Church: Uptown has an amazing homeless ministry, so we worked with them in passing out hot chocolate, leading worship, serving food, and eating alongside those who came to the church for a meal. We also helped prep and paint rooms for their new use as a classroom, our guys joined the men’s fellowship night, and we helped move a very heavy pool table! Salvation Army: A few of us had the chance to learn about the Salvation Army’s ministry which houses numerous homeless families and partners with them to help them achieve financial stability and job security. We helped make St. Patrick’s Day decorations for their upcoming celebration and clean their children’s playroom. Pui Tak Christian School: Located in Chinatown, we took the “L” to Pui Tak where we helped teachers with their daily activities, cleaned and reorganized their library, archived numerous articles, photographs, and letters about the school’s history, and also had a lot of fun helping the children in the after-school care program with their homework and playing with them in the gym. Pacific Garden Mission: Pacific Garden Mission is one of the oldest rescue missions in the country, and they do amazing work for the homeless population of Chicago. We toured the building and heard powerful testimonies from some of the men there. We made a ton of beds, helped serve meals, and clean the dorm areas while we were there.
